About me - Amanda Davie
I am an executive coach who helps individuals and organisations to be curious, courageous, collaborative and compassionate about how they go about their business. And I help business leaders to connect meaningfully and to understand and affect positive change and growth – personally, professionally and commercially.
Why might you want to work with me?
Coaching is about making the most of your potential, and about making changes that improve your situation. Good rapport and trust is a prerequisite to getting good results from coaching. Therefore your choice of coach has to be right - for you; someone with whom you can relate and build trust. So to understand a bit about who I am and how I coach, here’s my story so far...
I find interesting
Research has proven that increases in digital screen usage directly correlates to decreases in empathy.
Always one to challenge convention, even from an early age, my youth was happily misspent adoring Duran Duran, visiting tattoo parlours and shaving my rainbow-coloured hair. A whirlwind tour of Quebec and Andalucia followed, courtesy of the University of Sheffield, and after gaining a degree in modern languages and a foundation in life education from the University Ladies Rugby Club, I travelled south to The Big Smoke to start my career.
In 1998, as a fresh-faced grad, I stared at my blue MSDOS screen and wondered what the future of work would look like. So I boldly embarked into the unknown - a fledgling career as one of the pioneers of Internet advertising in the UK, where I worked with dot.com entrepreneurs, building fast-growth and highly successful sales and marketing services firms for ten years.
In 2008 I bumped my head on the proverbial glass ceiling and it hurt. So I quit my high-powered job in a media agency to flex my own entrepreneurial muscle, do things my way, and founded a transatlantic digital management consulting firm called Reform, followed up in 2011 with a non-profit mentoring programme for the digital industry called Mentoring Digital Minds as well as signing up to become a mentor on the Cherie Blair Foundation's International Mentoring Women In Business Programme.
In 2015, I decided to firmly put people at the heart of what I do and did a psychology of coaching training course with The Coach House to become an executive coach, launched my own coaching practice and became a member of the Association for Coaching. I specialise in coaching leaders in fast-moving and volatile environments like the media, digital and technology sectors, and in helping professionals transition e.g. coming back after a career break or after starting a family.
A quote I like
The most terrifying thing is to accept oneselve completely,
My mindset, partnerships and other interests...
I am a certified practitioner of RocheMartin's Emotional Capital Report – a tool to help assess and develop emotional intelligence in business leadership. I believe that empathy - among other competencies - is a key skill for connection and successful relationships, which is what business (and life) is all about (and that it can be taught and developed!)
I am also a Director of Equal Talent, a creative coaching consultancy on a mission to help organisations create balanced and inclusive workforces where everyone is confident in their talent and authenticity.
Above all, I am a champion for courageous, compassionate leaders, founders and entrepreneurs, working mums, kick-ass business women - and other worthy creatures! I believe that life is too short not to be giving it your all, and by being at your best.
